"Loved this show. I thought Ali was really brave dancing with all those professional dancers. She did a really good job. Love..."
The Shaftesbury Theatre will be welcoming a new dance spectacular this July in the form of Burn the Floor, the latest venture to feature some of the performing talents of television’s “Strictly Come Dancing”. The show is set to feature a thrilling blend of some of the world’s most breathtaking dancers and features guest dancers Ali Bastian and her dance professional from “Strictly” – Brian Fortuna. When it arrives in the West End, it is certain to be a dance favourite as audiences flock to the Shaftesbury Theatre to witness the magic.
A Broadway favourite, Burn the Floor sees 20 international dancers take to the stage, some of whom are from the United Kingdom and others hailing from various corners of the globe. When they appear in front of the audience they will be demonstrating skilled interpretations of Latin and Ballroom dance, including the foxtrot, the Charleston, the Jive, the Lindy, the Samba and much more.
Burn the Floor originally appeared in 1997 as part of Elton John’s birthday celebrations and it eventually became a New York sensation when it appeared on the other side of the Atlantic in 2009. Audiences couldn’t get enough of the amazing choreography, which had been put together by the acclaimed World Champion Latin and Ballroom dancer Jason Gulkison.
Gulkison is the renowned director, producer and choreographer behind the likes of “Floorplay” and “Extreme Ballroom”. He is a dance icon who became Australian dance champion throughout much of the 1980s and 1990s and also held the title in countries such as the UK, the US and beyond.
The show made the headlines in 2010 due to the unveiling of Ali Bastian and Brian Fortuna as guest stars in the production, two stars of the hit BBC series “Strictly Come Dancing”. The pair danced their way to the semi-finals in the seventh series of the show in December 2009 and beat out many others to get ahead in the competition. Beyond “Strictly”, Bastian is a former star of “Hollyoaks” and has appeared on shows such as “The Bill” and “A Touch of Frost”. Meanwhile, Fortuna has appeared in two series of “Strictly Come Dancing”, a Christmas special and in the American version “Dancing with the Stars”.
Burn the Floor is at the Shaftesbury Theatre from Monday 26th July 2010 (previews from Wednesday 21st July 2010) to Saturday 4th September 2010.
