The famous opera “Carmen” is celebrated all over the world for its classic score and its compelling story and now it comes to Sadler’s Wells under the watch of one of Spain’s most talented and famous dancers – Aída Gómez. Accompanied by flamenco dancers Eduardo Guerrero and José Huertas, in addition to 16 other performers, she will re-create the classic opera from George Bizet and provide London theatre audiences with something truly memorable. So as part of the Flamenco Festival London 2011, which also features Rocío Molina’s “Cuando Las Piedras Vuelen” and Eva Yerbabuena’s “Cuando Yo Era”, among others, it will be a great time to be visiting Sadler’s Wells Theatre.
Gómez will be portraying the title role in the production, with Jose Antonio Rodriguez providing the score, as we are transported to 1830s Seville. Carmen is the gypsy girl that attracts a young and inexperienced soldier amongst the host of lovers she has under her control. Don Jose, the soldier, leaves his lover to be with Carmen and when she leaves him to attract the attentions of bullfighter Escamillo, he is left devastated.
Aída Gómez’s Carmen appears at Sadler’s Wells Theatre from Friday 11th February 2011 to Sunday 13th February 2011.
