2011 sees the latest appearance of “Der fliegende Holländer” at the Royal Opera House under the direction of Tim Albery, the acclaimed director who previously saw his work nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award and who regularly receives great acclaim.
Albery has been behind a wealth of operatic shows over the years, from “Les Trovens” for the Opera North to a range of shows that were presented as part of the English National Opera. He would bring “Der fliegende Holländer” to the Royal Opera house in the second half of the last decade and, as ever, his status was secure.
Richard Wagner’s “Der fliegende Holländer” – or “The Flying Dutchman” – appeared in the 19th century and has stood the test of time so that the latest production arrives at the Royal Opera House more than 170 years since it premiered in Dresden in 1843.
And among the performers appearing onstage is Anja Kampe as Senta. The Italian soprano was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for the role during its previous appearance and also has credits ranging from “Tristan und Isolde”, “Die Gezeichneten” and “Hansel und Gretel” on stages around the world.
“Der fliegende Holländer” runs at the Royal Opera House from Tuesday 18th October 2011 to Friday 4th November 2011.
