This September the Royal Opera House will once again be presenting the acclaimed “Faust” with Vittorio Grigolo in the title role, plus Angela Gheorghiu and Malin Byström in the role of Marguerite. The production is the version originally directed by David McVicar when it was first staged back in 2004 and has earned many admirers since this appearance – so much so that there will be great anticipation for its latest appearance in Covent Garden.
McVicar is a well known director of the theatre and the opera and over the years he has been behind some of the most high profile works that people have witnessed. His credits for the Royal Opera House include “Die Zauberflote”, “Rigoletto” and “la nozze di Figaro” – the latter two of which were released on DVD – whilst his other credits include “Tosca” for the ENO and “Sweeney Todd” for Opera North.
London theatre audiences are always in for something special with “Faust”. After all it is a story that has penetrated popular culture for well over a century and presents a classic story of Doctor Faustus selling his soul, which remains as compelling as ever.
“Faust” runs at the Royal Opera House from Sunday 18th September 2011 to Monday 10th October 2011.
