Fidelio

Audiences arriving at the Royal Opera House for the current season may wish to pick up opera tickets to the only opera put together by the legendary Beethoven – “Fidelio” – which runs at the Covent Garden venue from March to April 2011. The celebrated piece has been around for over two hundred years now and whilst the production has been revised since then it is still a show that manages to attract an impressive audience. So it is the perfect addition to a season at the Royal Opera House that will also be welcoming the likes of “The Tsar’s Bride” and Aida, among others, in 2011.

The plot of “Fidelio” focuses on Leonore, who strives to do anything to rescue her husband Florestan – who has been imprisoned because of his political views. Her plan involves disguising herself as a prison guard named Fidelio and removing him from a situation that result in certain death. With beautiful music from the pen of Ludvig van Beethoven, and a libretto from Joseph Sonnleither, plus some wonderful performances from a cast of proven operatic stars, “Fidelio” at the Royal Opera House is likely to be a must-see event for those wishing to pick up opera tickets and witness it first-hand.

The production is a revival of Jürgen Flimm’s and features Nina Stemme as Leonore, with her husband Florestan portrayed by Endrik Wottrich and Kirill Petrenko leading the way as the conductor.

Fidelio makes its anticipated appearance at the Royal Opera House from Tuesday 29th March 2011 to Saturday 16th April 2011.
