Sheridan Smith and Duncan James will be heading down to the Savoy Theatre this winter to take on the famous roles once occupied by Reece Witherspoon and Luke Wilson as Legally Blonde: The Musical lands on a West End stage. The popular Broadway production will be showcased in front of British crowds under the original New York director Jerry Mitchell and also stars Alex Gaumond.

When it was housed in New York, Legally Blonde: The Musical managed to land nominations for seven coveted Tony Awards, the highest honour for a Broadway show and brought in big crowds as they aimed to witness the famous story retold on stage.

It was back in 2001 when audiences were first treated to the story of Elle Woods, a blonde girl who is always after a good time. However, things get serious when her boyfriend dumps her in favour of finding someone a little more serious. Elle has never been one to sit and remain the victim, so she picks herself up, throws away her credit cards and decides to hit the books. Soon enough she’s heading to Harvard Law ready to study for a degree and show everyone just what it takes to be true to oneself and take life a little more seriously.

The cast is made up of some great talents, all of which have a wealth of experience to their names. Duncan James is of course well known for being part of the boy band Blue as well as recently appearing on television screens in Dancing on Ice. However, his other credits include Plus One and a recent production of Chicago, in which he entered the world of law by playing the iconic character of Billy Flynn.

His co star Sheridan Smith has been on stage many times, with London credits that include Into The Woods at the Donmar Warehouse, Bugsy Malone at the Queen’s Theatre (1998) and A Little Shop of Horrors at the Duke of York’s Theatre (2007). However, she is perhaps best known for her role in the hit television sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. Her other TV roles include The Royle Family, Love Soup, Grown Ups and Benidorm alongside Johnny Vegas.

Finally, Alex  Gaumond’s previous London credits are made up of Desperately Seeking Susan at the Novello Theatre (2007) and The Full Monty at the Prince of Wales Theatre (2002).

Originally found in San Francisco in 2007, Legally Blonde: The Musical was also housed at the Palace Theatre on Broadway the same year and will arrive in the UK ready to take the West End by storm.
