When audiences arrive at the Aldwych Theatre in 2012 they will be there to witness an altogether different spectacle to those in previous years, with the long-running production of “Dirty Dancing” closing its doors in July 2011 and a new production of “Cool Hand Luke” following it from September. Then, from January to March 2012 the venue will turn itself over to “Midnight Tango”, a production that features two well known stars of the BBC series “Strictly Come Dancing” – Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace – and a director in the form of the West End-regular Karen Bruce.
“Midnight Tango” mixes storytelling with stand-out dancing and promises to celebrate all things the tango as the action unfolds in downtown Buenos Aires. Simone and Cacace will appear onstage alongside a wealth of other well known, talented dancers from around the world. Together – along with the band Tango Siempre - they will have the task of bringing all of the drama and sensuality associated with the tango to the surface, resulting in a story and a stage show in which danger and excitement bubbles onstage and London theatre audiences walk away with something to remember.
Vincent Simone is an Italian professional dancer who had been partnered with Flavia Cacace before their appearances on “Strictly Come Dancing” and together they have earned a wealth of titles in their career, from UK Professional Ten Dance Champions to UK Ballroom Champions.
Simone first appeared on “Strictly” in 2006 for the fourth series of the show and in the years since he has been partnered with Louisa Lytton, Stephanie Beacham, Rachel Stevens, Natalie Cassidy and Felicity Kendal.
Meanwhile, 2006 was the year that Cacace also made her debut in the show and has since been partnered with Jimmy Tarbuck, Matt DiAngelo, Phil Daniels, Terry Wogan and Craig Kelly.
So “Midnight Tango” will prove that there is always room for great celebrations of dance in the West End and in other venues like the Peacock Theatre, audiences also have the option of witnessing productions like “Havana Rakatan” from September to October. With “Midniht Tango”, audiences witness great star power, plus other talented dancers, taking to the stage and the result will be something to remember.
“Midnight Tango” appears at the Aldwych Theatre for a short run from Friday 20th January 2012 to Saturday 31st March 2012.
