Some Like It Hip Hop

Last year audiences may remember the production “Into the Hoods” appeared at the Royal Festival Hall on Southbank, where crowds were treated to a re-worked hip hop version of “Into the Woods”. That production was headed by ZooNation with Kate Prince taking on the role of director and this team is now set to return to the capital (alongside co-writer Felix Harrison), this time with a production appearing at the West End’s Peacock Theatre. On this occasion it is Billy Wilder’s hit movie “Some Like it Hot” that is getting the hip hop treatment as Tommy Franzen, Lizzie Gough and Teneisha Bonner head to the stage in “Some Like it Hip Hop”.

So expect a stand-out show when you have picked up Theatre Tickets to witness the action unfold at the Peacock Theatre, a venue that regularly hosts the best in contemporary dance in the West End, much like its sister venue Sadler’s Wells. With “Some Like it Hip Hop” there is everything one needs in a compelling plot – from mistaken identity to revolution – as comedy and hip hop fuse onstage to create something that audiences are unlikely to forget in a hurry. Music is from DJ Wilde and Josh Cohen.

Kate Prince is the founder of the ZooNation Company and as a choreographer she has a range of credits to her name, both on television and the stage, with examples such as “Strictly Dance Fever”, “Sport Relief” and “Blue Peter”. However, her stage credits earned her a 2009 Laurence Olivier Award nomination (for “Into the Hoods”), with examples of her work that include “BoxBeat” at Sadler’s Wells, “Breakin’ Convention” at Sadler’s Wells and “All You Need is Love” at the Queen’s theatre.

Meanwhile, actor Tommy Franzen is best known for his appearances on the BBC talent competition “So You Think You Can Dance”. His other credits include the Beijing Olympics handover ceremony, plus movies like “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” and “Mamma Mia!” He is a renowned street dancer who is known across the country for his impressive work.

Other shows appearing at the Peacock Theatre this year include “Havana Rakatan” and the traditional Christmas appearance of “The Snowman”, among others.

“Some Like it Hip Hop” appears at the Peacock Theatre from Thursday 20th October 2011 to Saturday 19th November 2011.
