Stomp

What can you say about Stomp?  This is a highly innovative, lively, noisy yet rhythmical show which pulsates with raw energy, passion and vitality!

Stomp is a stunning piece of visual theatre which features a unique ‘street band’ that create amazing sounds and rhythms from everyday or ‘street’ items.  These include dustbins, matchboxes, brooms, tin cans, hubcaps and even steel capped workboots!  You name it they play it!

The cast of Stomp has featured some of our best known celebrities such as Angus Deayton, Dawn French and Lenny Henry.  It has also included many famous US entertainers such as Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Lauren Bacall and Bruce Willis to name but a few.

Stomp was first created by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas in 1991 and was the culmination of more than ten years hard work.  This partnership first met back in 1981 as part of critically acclaimed street band ‘Pookiesnackenburger’.  This idiosyncratic band is best known for the series of commercials, for Heineken lager back in the 1980’s.

They came together and in 1991 Stomp was born.  It had a cast of 8 people to start with but this has expanded over time.  This production went on tour between 1991 and 1994 which included Barcelona, Sydney and Hong Kong. A final show took place in 1994 right here in London.

In the mid 1990’s the show premiered on Broadway with a much larger cast, that of 30 members.   This was followed by a series of productions made especially to tour the US.  These have also toured many other parts of the world.

In 2002, Stomp appeared in London and is now in its sixth year.  It is a truly amazing piece of performance art and one that combines the very best of dance, sound, comedy and technical agility with brilliant choreography.

A show not to be missed!
