The Flying Karamazov Brothers

The Vaudeville Theatre will be the home of comedy sensations The Flying Karamazov Brothers from June 2011 and this means that those picking up Theatre Tickets will be the first in London to witness the American comedy troupe in almost twenty years. But it is not destined for a long run and this gives audiences a limited amount of time to get in on the action as it arrives in town. With the promise of their high quality comedy routine, not to mention all of the other physical feats for which they are known, it is likely that this will be a popular addition to the Vaudeville’s 2011 season.

Though it is widely known that they are not really brothers (they’re not Russian either, nor are they capable of flying) the team decided on the name The Flying Karamazov Brothers when they first emerged onto the scene in the early 1970s, taking their name from the novel “The Brothers Karamazov” by Dostoevsky, and in the decades since then they have built up a positive reputation. They have performed all over the world and whilst they have not been seen in London for almost two decades they have still been putting on shows on the other side of the Atlantic – including appearances on Broadway.

The current performers that take to the stage as part of The Flying Karamazov Brothers include Mark Ettinger (as Alexei Karamazov), Roderick Kimball (as Pavel), Paul David Magid (Dmitri) and Stephen Bent (Zossima). Over the years the line-up has changed but they still remain the famous Karamazov Brothers, with Ettinger, for example, arriving in 1998 on the back of a career that had already seen him appear onstage and display a gift for music.

In the show coming to the Vaudeville Theatre audiences can expect a unique spectacle – one that combines the comedy of groups like Monty Python and injects some physical spectaculars along the way (much like cabaret acts such as “La Clique or La Soiree”).

The show appears following the run of “In A Forest Dark And Deep” with Matthew Fox and at the same time as the day-time production of “The Tiger Who Came To Tea”.

The Flying Karamazov Brothers appear at the West End’s Vaudeville Theatre from Monday 20th June 2011 (previews from Thursday 9th June 2011) to Saturday 10th September 2011.
