The renowned playwright Tanika Gupta brings “Wah! Wah! Girls” to the capital thanks to the Sadler’s Wells Theatre Company, who utilise their West End outlet the Peacock Theatre for the production from May to June 2012. The production is described as a British Bollywood Musical and features talented performers choreographed by the acclaimed Javed Sanadi – a big name in the world of Bollywood – whilst also being brought to the table by the Theatre Royal Stratford East and the Kneehigh Theatre Company.

With Tanika Gupta providing the script, “Wah! Wah! Girls” is directed by Emma Rice, with Pravesh Kumer co-directing and both Javed Sanadiand and Gauri Sharma Tripathi choreographing. It will undoubtedly make for a stand-out show.

The show is heavily inspired by a form of dance known as Mujra, a form that goes back many eras in India – in particular to the Mughal era – and has been depicted in Bollywood movies and beyond. In “Wah! Wah! Girls” we follow a love story set in the East End of London in 2012 and those with theatre tickets will therefore get the opportunity to witness some stand-out song and dance numbers.

Writer Tanika Gupta is a British playwright who has worked for both the stage and screen, with well known television shows like “Grange Hill”, “Crossroads” and “The Bill” to her name in addition to plays like “Hobson’s Choice”, “Fragile Land”, “The Country Wife”, “Sugar Mummies”, Meet the Mukheriees” and “White Boy”.

So “Wah! Wah! Girls” should be a stand-out show in a year that the Peacock Theatre also welcomes “My First Sleeping Beauty” and “Umojo – The Spirit of Togetherness”. It runs at the venue from Thursday 24th May 2012 to Saturday 23rd June 2012.
