Can We Talk About This?

The Lyttelton National Theatre becomes the home of “Can We Talk About This?” in 2012, a show that looks at the ways in which particular events have affected freedoms, from the publication of “The Satanic Verses” by Salmon Rushdie to Muhammad Cartoons, which caused controversy in 2005. This is a unique piece of theatre from DV8 and one that will leave a lasting impression when audiences pick up Theatre Tickets and witness it take place on South Bank in London.

The above events caused a huge stir when they took place, with Rushdie’s book burnt and death threats handed his way, whilst the Muhammad Cartoons caused a similar reaction as well. But they also caused a lot of debate and as a result this theatre piece will explore the political and cultural ramifications of such events as well, such as the effect on censorship, freedom of speech and policies related to multiculturalism.

The show is directed by Lloyd Newson, who is the director of the DV8 Physical Theatre company and as a result he has been on the receiving end of awards and great acclaim.

“Can We Talk About This?” arrives at the Lyttelton National Theatre in the same year as shows like “Travelling Light”, with a run that takes it from Friday 9th March 2012 to Wednesday 28th March 2012.
