Dirty White Boy Tales of Soho
Trafalgar Studios 2 welcomes “Dirty White Boy: Tales of Soho” to its stage this May as Clayton Littlewood’s play makes its way to a West End theatre. It will star David Benson in a lead role alongside Alexis Gerred and Littlewood himself in a story inspired by his own experience of running the genuine shop Dirty White Boy in London.
Originally, the story was told in serialised form in “The London Paper” under the title of “Soho Stories”, but eventually became a stage show. Its setting of a menswear shop in Soho would provide a suitable stage experience as different passers-by come and go and Littlewood blogs about his experiences.
When Littlewood ran the actual shop he had recently moved to London in order to pursue a career in music, subsequently becoming a student and eventually writing columns for “The London Paper” and providing contributions to BBC Radio Shows. He also appeared on Pirate Radio and in doing so became well known for portraying a character called Doctor Bunty – a West Country Aromatherapist.
When “Dirty White Boy” makes its way to the stage, Littlewood will portray the narrator, with David Benson taking on a lead role. The actor has been seen on stages up and down the country as a comedian and writer with credits that include “My Life with Kenneth Williams” back in 2006, which was his debut production that landed him a Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This starting point led to a whole host of shows, including “Nothing But Pleasure”, “It’s A Plot! David Benson’s Conspiracy Cabaret”, “David Benson’s Haunted Stage” and “Think No Evil of Us”. In London he also appeared in Eugene Ionesco's “Rhinoceros” at the Lyric Hammersmith, whilst his screen work has encompassed “Goodnight Sweetheart”, which saw him take on the recurring role of Noel Coward.
Finally, Alexis Gerred will make an appearance performing torch songs. Gerred may be recognisable to audiences as a finalist of the BBC1 television shows “Your Country Needs You”, which saw him narrowly miss out on representing Britain in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Dirty White Boy: Tales of Soho makes its appearance at Trafalgar Studios 2 from Friday 30th April 2010 (previews from Monday 26th April 2010) to Saturday 22nd May 2010.
