Ghost Stories

Previously playing to packed audiences at the Lyric Hammersmith, Ghost Stories now makes the transition to the West End, arriving at the Duke of York’s Theatre from July 2010 complete with stars Nicholas Burns, David Cardy, Ryan Gage and Andy Nyman. It has received critical praise at its former location and it is certain to match this as it finds a new home.

Ghost Stories carries a warning due to its moments of shock and tension and this is because it does exactly what it says on the tin – it is a show that features an array of spooky stories that also feature humour to go along with the scares. The result is a fun and compelling ride, complete with the kind of shocks that makes it instantly memorable. So it is no wonder that it has been met with widespread acclaim and its original run at the Lyric Hammersmith received its own booking extension before news broke of its transfer.

But Ghost Stories is not just well known for its content, it is also well known for its writing and directing team of Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman, the former being an integral part of “The League of Gentlemen” and the latter a star of shows like “Dead Set”. They have both put pen to paper on the show and direct it alongside Sean Holmes to bring a unique voice to the London theatre scene.

Jeremy Dyson is a member of “The League of Gentlemen” alongside Steve Pemberton, Mark Gatiss and Reece Sheersmith and together they have dominated various formats, including radio, television and film. But in addition to his work with them he also created the television series “Funland” and put pen to paper on novels such as “Never Trust a Rabbit”, “What Happens Now” and “The Cranes that Build the Cranes”.

Meanwhile, Andy Nyman is an actor who has appeared on British television in the likes of “Dead Set”, the zombie television show from writer Charlie Brooker, “Severance” and movies such as “Death at a Funeral” from director Frank Oz, and “Are You Ready For Love?” He received acclaim for his work as a co-writer and co-creator of Derren Brown’s television series and his stage shows – particularly the television show “Derren Brown: The Heist”, which saw him nominated for a Lew Grade Award at the 2007 BAFTAs.

Ghost Stories is at the Duke of York’s Theatre from Tuesday 13th July 2010 (previews from Friday 25th June 2010) to Sunday 7th November 2010.
