Caitriona McLaughlin directs the new play from Darren Murphy at Trafalgar Studios 2 this year as “Irish Blood, English Heart” begins its run at the venue in May. The show is a transfer from The Union Theatre and not only will audiences get to witness what is the new show from Murphy, whose work has been seen in London and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, it will also be an opportunity to witness actors such as Oliver Gilbert, Ian Groombridge, Howard Teale and Carolyn Tomkinson in lead roles. So it is likely to be a interesting show for a venue that also welcomes the likes of “Lidless” and Ella Hickson’s “Precious Little Talent” in 2011.
Murphy has penned numerous works since the late 1990s and is also the a co-founder of the Penny Dreadful Theatre Company and with “Irish Blood, English Heart” he teams with Caitriona McLaughlin to bring it in front of London theatre audiences. McLaughlin is an actor and director whose work has spanned the stage and screen. As a director McLaughlin has been behind the likes of “Bottom of the World” at the Atlantic Theater in New York and numerous other shows on this side of the Atlantic as well. As an actor she has appeared in “The Tinker’s Wedding”, which is one of many to appear at the Union Theatre, and more.
In the play “Irish Blood, English Heart” we meet two brothers whose lives have gone in very different directions and meet up once again following the death of their father. Ray is the successful one having made a name for himself as a comedian, whilst Con struggles to support his family as a taxi driver in London. So as they meet they must make some difficult decisions as they discuss their father and which of them is representative of his life and legacy.
Actor Howard Teale appears in the production in his latest role for the Union Theatre, with previous stints such as “If the Cap Fits” and “Kiss of Death”. He has also appeared in numerous shows at the Hen and Chickens Theatre, whilst finding time to appear on other stages across the country.
“Irish Blood, English Heart” appears at Trafalgar Studios 2 from Monday 2nd May 2011 to Saturday 21st May 2011.
