For those that are fans of the Golden Age of Radio, “The Fitzrovia Radio Hour” will be the perfect way to relive some nostalgic moments as three radio plays are performed in front of a live audience. Running at the Ambassador’s Theatre, the show is set to feature a wide range of talented performers working from some stand-out scripts. So as the team get together and attempt to bring the 1940s back to the stage, there are likely to be plenty of people hoping to get hold of theatre tickets to witness the glorious celebration of a bygone era firsthand.
This year’s plays are yet to be confirmed (as of January 2012), though last year’s were “He Should Have Known His Place”, “Captain Fasthand and the Rooty Gong” and “The Undead Queen of Evil!” and all three of the stories managed to deliver a nostalgic and gripping yarn for audiences at Trafalgar Studios 2. For example, the story “Captain Fasthand and the Rooty Gong” took us to the mountains of Northern India and it is here that we witnessed a story of a beautiful spy tempting a British Army captain and forcing him to make some tough choices, with the war at home raging on.
Alix Dunmore is one of the members of the team and this actor and writer has appeared in a wealth of shows over the years and these include previous runs of “The Fitzrovia Radio Hour” at Shakespeare’s Globe (and a previous run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2010). Her other credits a host of shows around London and in Edinburgh.
And as the show was previously at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe it will be joining a long list of other productions that have made the transition from the Scottish Arts Festival to the West End. It shows that by looking north of the border to the famous annual event audiences can sometimes get a glimpse of future West End success stories.
Audiences can still pick up box office theatre tickets to see “Stomp” as that continues its run at the Ambassador’s Theatre (and is booking to Saturday 15th December 2012). Meanwhile, “The Fitzrovia Radio Hour” will appear concurrently with the production from Tuesday 14th February 2012 to Tuesday 6th March 2012.
