This Christmas visitors to the Garrick Theatre will be able to celebrate the season alongside everyone’s favourite bear – Sooty. The popular puppet will be arriving at the West End venue from mid-December along with his television co-star Richard Cadell, who has been the human star of Sooty since he took over from Matthew Corbett in 1998. Like numerous other productions around the capital it will be a chance for kids to see Christmas in with style and whether they opt for “The Sooty Christmas Show” or the wealth of other productions on offer – from “The Gruffalo” to “The Snowman” – it is certain to be a festive season to remember.
The plot of “The Sooty Christmas Show” sees Sooty and his friends preparing for party when things just keep on going wrong. Sooty’s attempts at rehearsing his magic show aren’t going well, Sweep’s cooking is going very badly, Sue’s clothing decisions aren’t coming together and Richard is stuck in the middle. Perhaps it will be up to Uncle Norman to set things right once and for all.
Sooty has been around for almost sixty years, having been introduced to audiences in the 1950s under the watch of Harry Corbett. After two decades his son Matthew Corbett then took on the duties of human co-star and eventually Richard Cadell stepped in at the end of the 1990s. One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is the nation’s feelings towards the lovable yellow bear.
“The Sooty Christmas Show” is at the Garrick Theatre from Tuesday 13th December 2011 to Saturday 31st December 2011.
