An impressive cast leads the latest production to head to Trafalgar Studios 1 as “Three Days in May” takes to the venue from October 2011 to March 2012, taking audiences back to a crucial time in the Second World War as Winston Churchill faces his war cabinet. The cast includes “Dalziel and Pascoe” star Warren Clarke in the role of the iconic Prime Minister with Jeremy Clyde, Robert Demeger and more in supporting roles whilst Alan Strachan takes on directing duties from a script by Ben Brown.
“Three Days in May” arrives at the venue as the summer production “Top Girls” comes to an end in the latter days of October.
Winston Churchill (Clarke) is the new Prime Minister at the beginning of the play and during the eponymous three days we are witness to an extraordinary debate between him and his war cabinet behind the doors of Ten Downing Street. As the new face of the government he must convince the rest of the group – which includes voices advocating the idea of giving into Hitler – that they must continue their battle against fascism. The road ahead is difficult whatever the outcome, but the decision is one that will shape the face of the free world forever.
Audiences will recognise the actor Warren Clarke from his numerous appearances in British television shows and movies and in recent years he has been perhaps best associated with the series “Dalziel and Pascoe”. His career has also seen him appear in everything from “Coronation Street” and “Bleak House” to movies such as “A Clockwork Orange” under director Stanley Kubrick, “Top Secret!” alongside Val Kilmer and “Firefox” alongside Clint Eastwood. More recently he has appeared in the television series “George Gently”.
As well as Clarke, plus the mentioned Jeremy Clyde and Robert Demeger (who portray Lord Halifax and Neville Chamberlain respectively), the cast also includes James Alper, Dicken Ashworth, Timothy Knightley, Paul Ridley and Michael Sheldon.
“Top Girls” finishes its run at Trafalgar Studios 1 on 29th October 2011. London theatre audiences can then see “Three Days in May” as it replaces it from Wednesday 2nd November 2011 (previews from Monday 31st October 2011) to Saturday 3rd March 2012.
