Biffy Clyro is one of those bands and has been playing music since the mid 1990s, only hitting the big time when the group released its 2007 album “Puzzle” to great acclaim. Before that they had a cult following that made them one of the biggest underground bands operating in the United Kingdom, playing alongside bands such as Oceansize whilst managing to wow audience members with a truly unique sound.
Biffy Clyro first formed when the members were in the teens, with guitarist and singer Simon Neil joining forces with bassist Ben Johnston and, eventually, James Johnston on the drums under the name Screwfish, through which the group experimented with their musical voice. They went to University in Scotland and after gigging around Glasgow finally attracted enough attention to release the record “thekidswhopoptodaywillrocktomorrow”. Shortly after, they were signed to the independent label Beggar’s Banquet.
Under Beggars, they released their 2002 album “Blackened Sky”, which received critical acclaim. They then started to muster up a cult following, which they cemented with the release of 2003’s “The Vertigo of Bliss” and then 2004’s “Infinity Land”. The band began slowly gaining attention, but all of that was about speed up tenfold by 2007 and the release of “Puzzle”.
Signing up to 14th Floor, Biffy Clyro would soon release their breakthrough album that was confounded with hit singles such as “Saturday Superhouse”, “Semi-Mental” and “Mountains”. They had made their mark and would go on to be the support act for various big name bands like Muse, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Rolling Stones.
2009 saw them return to the album charts with their latest record “Only Revolutions”, which cemented their status as one of the most exciting rock bands operating in the UK. The first taste for fans was the single “The Golden Rule”, which was accompanied with singles such as “The Captain”. Anticipation was growing for Biffy Clyro’s album by mid 2009 and when it was finally released in the November of that year, it did not disappoint. Only Revolutions is proof of a band still at the top of their game after many years together, providing the band with new songs that would sound amazing in the live setting.
And like many bands, it is live on stage where Biffy Clyro truly shines. Energetic and hectic are just two of the words to describe the shows witnessed by audiences with Biffy Clyro tickets. They have proven themselves an unbeatable group of musicians and they are likely to continue to re-enforce this for years to come.
