Many of their fans will be extremely pleased at their singers return into the musical fray with a wholly new solo project, “Fever Ray”.
Yes, that’s right: Karin Dreijer Andersson’s wonderful voice and incredibly song writing talent has returned, but not in the guise you would perhaps immediately expect. True, the electronics and drum machines are still there, and the music still shimmers with the coldness of a glacier, but something is certainly different.
Andersson returns as “Fever Ray” to bring us a far more mature song writing style, eschewing the more populist aspects of the ‘dance’ label to dabble in a quite a good deal of Leftfield experimentation: this is music that makes you think. But unlike many other similar electronic artists, there is no whiff of pretentiousness or insincerity; it is clear that whilst expanding her mind, Andersson has certainly not lost the capacity to feel, and to make us experience those emotions with a startling intensity.
