Shortly after forming the band, the pair were offered a deal with a London record label named Mute Records. In a period of only six months, the pair worked relentlessly on their first album. The pair worked in a bungalow in the English countryside; however, Alison has stated that she found it hard to record alone at times, as the rodents and bugs that lived in the bungalow frightened her.
Aside from a few setbacks, Goldfrapp released their first album ‘Felt Mountain’ in September of 2000. The nine tracked album features songs such as ‘Oompa Radar,’ ‘Lovely Head’ and ‘Felt Mountain’ and did well amongst critics. NME magazine gave the album six out of ten stars, and other respected critics rated the album similarly.
Goldfrapp went on to release multiple other chart-topping albums and singles, and remain a powerful musical force today. For those who have seen Goldfrapp performing live, they will agree that Alison has an enchanting presence on stage.
