The film ‘Pretty in Pink’ did hugely well amongst critics, and boosted the band’s status. Shortly after the release of the film, the track became extremely popular, making it one of Psychedelic Furs’ most successful singles to date.

The band formed in 1977 firstly under the name RKO. The members of the band, Richard Butler (soon to be Vince Ely), Tim Butler, Duncan Kilburn, Roger Morris and Paul Wilson and John Ashton played gigs whenever they could alongside other emerging punk bands of the time. The band changed their name several times, using ‘Radio’ and ‘The Europeans’ before finally settling on Psychedelic Furs as their permanent group name. In 1980, the band released their first full length album through Columbia Records. The album contains nine songs spread out over two sides. Songs on the album include ‘Imitation of Christ,’ ‘Sister Europe’ and ‘We Love You.’ The album was played on various radio stations throughout Europe, allowing the band to expose themselves to a large audience.

The band’s next release did well in the US, unlike their debut album. ‘Talk Talk Talk’ features ten songs such as ‘I Wanna Sleep With You,’ ‘Into You Like A Train’ and ‘So Run Down.’ The album did well amongst critics, earning four and one half stars out of five from webzine Allmusic, as well as four out of five stars from Rolling Stone magazine. The album also did well in New Zealand, exposing the band to an even larger fan base.
A few years later, the band released their third album ‘Forever Now.’ The album features ten tracks such as ‘Love My Way,’ ‘Only You and I’ and ‘Yes I Do (Merry Go Round).’  Once again, the album was praised by critics, earning three out of five stars from Rolling Stone magazine and three and one half out of five stars from the webzine Allmusic.
