This type of music consists of generally longer and more intricate compositions and does not rely solely on lyrics.
Roxy Music formed in 1971, and consists of members Bryan Ferry, the singer and song writer, Andy Mackay on oboe and saxophone, Phil Manzanera on guitar as well as Paul Thompson, who played drums. Their first self-titled album was recorded in the year 1972 with financial aid from EG Management. The band signed with the record label “Island Records” after an employee at the company saw the artwork for Roxy Music. Shortly after this encounter, the band was signed and saw a huge increase in support from fans all across the UK and in Europe.
Although the band became hugely successful, the lead singer Bryan Ferry, decided to end the band’s career as the individuals in the band wished to continue making music as solo artists. The band officially split in 1983, after the release of their last album, titled Avalon.
In 2001 however, the band came together once more to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Roxy Music. The band toured all over the world and have recently been planning and performing concerts for the fans that so dearly love the members of Roxy Music. Seeing the band in concert is an incredible experience for all: not only do fans get to witness the talented musicians at work, the sounds of this ‘art rock’ music will leave one breathless. Although the band is not technically still together, purchasing their records will ensure that their music is kept alive for generations to come.
