The band is named after a town on the Isle of Lewis in the United Kingdom. The band is known for their uniuque use of strings and keyboards, as well as the normal use of guitars and drums. Currently, the band is signed to a British record lablel named 4AD.
The band had their first taste of radio play when they released a rough cut of the song ‘I Saw You Blink.’ A friend of the band, Tom Bearder, played the song on BBC’s Oxford station. Unfortunately, after playing a solid hour of Stornoway’s music, Bearder was suspended from his job temporarily. Although the radio presenter had to face the consequences of his actions, he allowed Stornoway to expose their music to a hundreds of listeners across the Oxford area.
The summer of 2009 proved to be a busy one for the band. In July, they released the single ‘Zorbing’ to audiences across the United Kingdom. Also, the band were given the opportunity to perform at popular summer music festivals such as Glastonbury Festival. The band teamed up with the Daily Telegraph to document their experiences and also to expose themselves to potential fans.
Later on in September of 2009, the band released another single called ‘Unfaithful.’ The band held a concert especially for the launch of the song. The following month, the band embarked on a tour of the United Kingdom in order to support the release of their new material. When they had finished touring, the band appeared on Jools Holland’s late night TV show on British Television to perform alongside huge acts such as the Foo Fighters and Jay-Z.
In March of 2010, the band secured a record contract with 4AD Records, and began work on their debut album ‘Beachcomber’s Windowsill.’ The album was released in May and along with the new album came another single: ‘I Saw You Blink.’
