The band is known for their unique musical sound. They incorporate aspects of style from folk and indie genres, and have also relied on the psychedelic style of the 1960s to fine tune their sound.

The band so far has released multiple full length albums, including ‘Magic and Medicine,’ ‘Nightfreak and the Sons of Becker’ and ‘The Invisible Invasion.’

The band originally formed whilst the members were studying at school in West Kriby. During the free time they had during school, the group would meet up and play music in the allotted music room. After completing college, the individuals all went on to find jobs and to study at university; however, this was short-lived, and the guys decided to form a full time band.

After playing gigs wherever and whenever they could get them, the band managed to secure a record contract with Deltasonic Records, a Liverpool based company.  Due to the amount of gigs that the band played in Liverpool around the time of securing their record deal, they left an imprint that many other Liverpool-based bands have picked up on. Musicians such as The Rascals and The Zutons have been influenced by The Coral, for Example.

The band’s debut album ‘The Coral’ was released in July of 2002. The album features twelve songs such as ‘I Remember When,’ ‘Calendars and Clocks’ and ‘Dreaming of You.’ The release was praised by critics, earning four out of five stars from webzine AllMusic, as well as three out of five stars from Rolling Stone Magazine.  The album managed to reach the number five spot on the United Kingdom Albums Chart, and various singles from the album such as ‘Don’t Think You’re the First’ managed to  also chart well.
