The band formed in 1998 and began to be widely recognised at the beginning of the 2000s. The Strokes released their debut album ‘Is This It?’ in 2001. The album contains tracks such as ‘The Modern Age,’ ‘Soma,’ and ‘New York City Cops,’ a song that had to be replaced on the US release in order to show respect for the police force in New York after the 9/11 attacks.  The album was hugely successful with critics, making several ‘top 10’ lists of various respected critics and reviewers. This first album had already created quite a ruckus about The Strokes, and they appeared on several television shows to do performances, as well as touring with popular rock band The White Stripes.

After the success of ‘Is This It?,’ the group began work on their second album. ‘Room On Fire’ was not as successful commercially as the first album; however, ‘Room On Fire’ was praised once again by critics and went gold in sales. The band continued to receive exposure from the media, making the cover of magazines such as Rolling Stone and Spin Magazine. The album featured tracks such as ’12:51,’ and ‘Reptilia;’ two songs that went on to become hugely popular and well known amongst Strokes fans. After embarking on several tours to support ‘Room On Fire,’ Casablancas married his girlfriend and assistant band manager Juliet Joslin.

A couple of years later, the Strokes’ most recent album was released. ‘First Impressions of Earth’  was a huge hit for The Strokes, debuting at number one in the United Kindgom, number four in the United States, and going gold within a week in Japan. The album contains singles such as ‘Juicebox’ and ‘You Only Live Once,’ two songs that were extremely successful in the charts. For their 2006 UK tour to support the release of the album, the strokes managed to sell out eighteen shows; a milestone for any band. After months of touring the US and other countries around the world, The Strokes announced that they would be taking a much needed break from playing together.

The Strokes have officially announced that they are once again working together in the studio; however, no official release date of a fourth album has been discussed.
