Under Warner Music, he released his first single titled ‘Boten Anna,’ shortly followed by an English version titled ‘Now You’re Gone.’ Both tracks were received extremely well by the public, becoming smash hits in clubs across Europe. In the UK, the track ‘Now You’re Gone’ managed to reach number one, and hold that title for a whopping five weeks.
After the release of his first two singles, Basshunter began working on his first album under Warner Music. The album, titled ‘Now You’re Gone: The Album” contained tracks such as ‘All I Ever Wanted,’ ‘Please Don’t Go,’ and ‘DotA.’ All of these singles would become popular club hits throughout the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe. Although the public enjoyed this album, critics gave it poor reviews. The Guardian and webzine Digital Spy both gave it one star out of five ratings.
In September of 2009, Basshunter released his fifth album ‘Bass Generation.’ In preparation for the release of this album, Altberg began to interact with his fans: he released the track ‘Numbers’ from the album on his Bebo profile, allowing fans to download the single for free. Also, Basshunter fans had the opportunity to submit their own cover artwork for the upcoming album. The winner’s work would signed, framed and presented to them by the artist himself on the tour for the album.
Along with the massive exposure that Basshunter was receiving due to his singles, he was invited to appear in the final series of British reality TV programme ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ in early 2010. The artist managed to gain fourth place in the programme, a considerable feat for a non-British celebrity. Fans of this incredible artist who have had the opportunity to see him performing live will agree that he performs with a passion and energy that easily translates to the audience. Although he is known to suffer from Tourettes Syndrome, Altberg seems to funnel his energy through his music, using it as a somewhat therapeutic coping mechanism. To see Basshunter live, it is highly recommended that you pre-purchase tickets to avoid the disappointment due to sold out shows.
