Hot Chip consists of founding members Alexis Taylor on vocals (in addition to guitar, piano, percussion and synthesisers) and Joe Goddard on vocals (as well as synthesiser and percussion), alongside Owen Clarke on guitars, bass and synthesiser, Al Doyle and Felix Martin. Over the years they have also featured musicians such as Hagop Tchaparia, Rob Smoughton, Dillon Nagle, Daniel Paton, Chris Trigg and Scott Bennett, with Leo Taylor and others guesting on their latest album. They first formed when Taylor and Goddard joined forces in 2000 to form a sixth form group, with the rest of the band joining years later in 2003.
They began their musical career by gigging and releasing their own CDs, before finally signing with Moshi Moshi Records in 2003. As a result, they were able to make a huge impression on the music charts with their debut album “Coming on Strong” in 2004. They would go on to join EMI Records not long after and it was with them that they continued their career with their second album “The Warning” (2006). Their second release marked their onslaught on the mainstream music charts, with singles like “Boy From School” and “Over and Over” proving big success stories. They would then follow it up with “Made in the Dark” (2008).
2010 sees Hot Chip return with their anticipated album “One Life Stand”, which sees them cement their status as a band to keep an eye on. “One Life Stand” has seen songs such as “Take It In” and “One Life Stand” maintain their upbeat style that has made them so universally popular, with influences from disc and early house music. As a result, Hot Chip show that they can experiment with their sound whilst keeping with their traditional style.
