Hayseed Dixie consists of John Wheeler (also known as Barley Scotch) on vocals, acoustic guitar and violin, ‘Reverend’ Don Wayne Reno on the banjo, ‘Deacon’ Dale Reno on the mandolin and the acoustic guitar, and Jake ‘Bakesnake’ Byers on the acoustic bass. Since 2001, Hayseed Dixie have performed all around the world with that year also seeing the release of their debut album “A Hillbilly Tribute to AC/DC” emerging to great success. With a mixture of bluegrass and country rock music, they managed to find many fans and with AC/DC covers that stood out amongst the crowd they soon found an adoring fan base.
They were originally founded by Wheeler, Don Wayne Reno, Dale Reno and former members Rusty Horn, Kurt Carrick and Mike Daly and as part of their fictional background they all hail from Deer Lick Holler, Appalachia. Since their first album they have gone to release further successful records as well as play at festivals all over the planet, including Glastonbury, Cambridge and Loopallu in Scotland (which they founded). Their albums include “A Hillbilly Tribute to Mountain Love” (2002), “Kiss My Grass: A Hillbilly Tribute to Kiss” (2003), “Let There Be Rockgrass” (2004), “A Hot Piece of Grass” (2005), “Weapons of Grass Destruction” (2007), “No Covers” and their latest 2010 release “Killer Grass”.
