When it comes to British music festivals, we normally imagine the outdoor events held during the weekend, which make the most of the warmer weather at that time of year.
But this overlooks the wealth of different events of varying shapes and sizes that dot the music landscape and as such, it overlooks a worthy addition to the festival line-up – the Dot to Dot Festival in Nottingham, Bristol and Manchester.
So called because it sees all of the artists appear onstage in one city only to travel in a group to the next one for the next night, it is a way of spreading the festival spirit across England and give everyone an excuse to pick up festival tickets before it is too late.
When the festival arrives in town it takes up a number of venues in the city, with Nottingham’s Rock City being the biggest in the East Midlands centre, Manchester Academy 1 in the North West city and the Academy in the South West. It has been running for much of the last decade and as a result has seen an array of different acts appear with each passing year, making it a popular event.
As far back as 2005 the Dot to Dot festival has welcomed acts such as The Rakes, progressing on to the likes of Mystery Jets and The Long Blondes, then The Cribs, Kate Nash and New Young Pony Club in 2007. Towards the end of the decade the Dot to Dot Festival then continued in welcoming some acclaimed artists and these included Dirty Pretty Things, The Holloways, Friendly Fires and Cage the Elephant, amongst others.
Then the new decade arrived and audiences flocked to the venues in the three cities to witness the likes of Ellie Goulding, Zane Lowe, Blood Red Shoes, Mystery Jets and more.
So the Dot to Dot Festival is here to stay and it is likely that it will continue to flourish across the oncoming decade with more and more acts regularly added to the line-up. After all, nothing beats witnessing some of the best acts around in one setting and this is what festivals offer in abundance, with the Dot to Dot Festival as no exception. So make sure you are first in line!
