When it comes to progressive metal one of the best known bands out there is the prolific and well known American act Dream Theater, who have been showing other alternative metal acts how it is done ever since they got together in the mid-to-late 1980s.
Over the years they have accumulated a wealth of fans, who have been quick to pick up albums, concert tickets and tune into music channels to witness their videos. As such they have been able to maintain a large fan base for some time, whilst also pleasing the critics with the high quality of their musicianship, making them amongst the most acclaimed metal acts in the world.
There have been various line-up changes over the years, though Dream Theater retain two of the original members of the team in bassist John Myung and guitarist John Petrucci. Today they perform alongside further members Jame LaBrie as lead singer and drummer and Jordan Rudess on keyboards. Over the years, as other musicians have come and gone, they have released an abundance of songs that fans will want to hear in a live setting, from early releases like “Another Day” and “Pull me Under” to further additions like “Stargazer”, “Larks’ Tongues in Aspic, Pt. 2” and “To Tame a Land” among others over a period of twenty years.
And various albums have also made their way into the shops as well during this time, with their debut “When Dream and Day Unite” emerging first in 1989. In the two decades between then and today they have followed it up with examples such as “Images and Words” in 1992, “Falling into Infinity” in 1997, “Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence” in 2002, “Octavarium” in 2005 and “Black Clouds & Silver Linings” in 2009. So whilst there are other metal acts there like Transatlantic, Dream Theater have released an abundance of albums over a long career.
And now they return to the stage to perform in front of their fans in the United Kingdom, where they will inevitably prove that the craft and style evident on their CDs is amplified tenfold when they emerge in front of the crowd to play their work live. So with rock tickets, metal fans are in for an unforgettable show.
