Charlie Simpson’s band Fightstar continues to go from strength to strength as they continue laying down stunning alternative rock tracks on stages across the country. Over the last decade they have increased steadily in popularity as they head into the next decade with three albums under their belt alongside EPs and singles that have been given plenty of airplay.
When it comes to rock bands, Fightstar are certainly a four-piece to keep an eye on as they seek to maintain their level of success in the 2010s.
As well as Charlie Simpson, well known for being one part of another band aimed at a decidedly different audience earlier in the decade, Fightstar also consists of Alex Westaway on guitar, Han Haigh on bass and Omar Abidi on the drums. During their time together they have successfully rid themselves of any stigma attached to Simpson’s previous exploits in the music world and reinvented themselves as hard rock and metal stars.
They formed back in 2003 after an unplanned jam session at a party in London, with Simpson quitting his old band by 2005, allowed Fightstar to release their debut EP to critical acclaim. With live shows and positive word of mouth surrounding their early releases, Fightstar were quick to establish themselves and silence any naysayers and by the time they released their debut album “Grand Unification” in 2006 they were well on their way to the top.
Their debut EP took the form of “They Likes You Better When You Were Dead”, which was well known for featuring the song “Palahniuk’s Laughter”, based on author Chuck Palahniuk. They would soon sign to a major label and begin the hard work of extending their sound to a wider audience.
They did so with “Grand Unification” in 2006, which enjoyed moderate success and established them on the rock map. It was followed up by 2007’s “One Day Son, This Will All Be Yours” as Fightstar continued their rise to the top.
2009 saw Fightstar continue to cement themselves as well known rock stars with the release of their latest album “Be Human”, which impressed both critics and audiences alike.
When Fightstar tickets go on sale they are sure to be snapped up quickly as fans, eager to witness a memorable live show, flock to the nearest venue and witness a band in pride of place onstage. Make sure you are one of them.
