Only then can the unbeatable atmosphere of an Iggy & The Stooges concert be experienced by adoring fans, where likeminded people share in the joy of hearing their favourite songs performed right in front of them.
This American rock band were originally around from 1967 to 1974, during which time they released hit albums and became notorious for the onstage antics of singer Iggy Pop. Their break-up in 1974 meant there was musical gap in the world until 2003 when they made an anticipated return and showed other, younger, bands how it is done.
Iggy Pop had been in numerous different bands before forming The Stooges following inspiration from drummer Sam Lay. The Iguanas and The Prime Movers were just some of the groups doing the round in the Michigan area of the time with Pop performing under his real name of James Newell Osterberg. When he joined forces with Ron Asheton on guitar, Scott Asheton on the drums and Dave Alexander on the bass, he took on the moniker of Iggy Pop and they soon began to gig in their local area and begin to make a name for themselves.
Though they were yet to settle on the sound that would make their name, the Stooges (or The Psychedelic Stooges as they were known at the time) were making an impression. Their live performances, hailed as unique and primitive, were catching people’s attention and they would soon sign to Elektra Records in 1968, with their debut album “The Stooges” appearing in 1969. They followed these releases with “Fun House” (1970) and “Raw Power” (1973) before disbanding in 1974.
Early in the last decade various members of the band teamed with other musicians to play covers of famous songs by the Stooges. They eventually re-united and began to perform new concerts and eventually re-emerge with a new album titled “The Weirdness”. They continued to appear in shows around the world right up to the death of guitarist Ron Asheton in January 2009.
The future continues to show no end in sight for Iggy & The Stooges, with James Williamson now performing on the guitar. Therefore, getting Iggy & The Stooges tickets is a must as they continue to offer an unbeatable live show that goes unrivalled by any other current band. When it comes to classic rock music look no further than this great American band, with stage antics that will stay in your mind for years to come.
