Imelda May and her band make music that seems supercharged with an energetic force, making you feel that you simply need to get up and dance.  Her voice has all the power of a siren, with the flexibility to be sweet, sultry and crowing in seemingly one single breath.  Backed by the considerable talents of Dave Priseman (Trumpet, Flugle Horn and Percussion), Darrel Higham (Guitar), Al Gare (Double Bass and Bass Guitar) and Steve Rushton (Drums), her group manages to make a sound that is at once instantly recognisable because of it’s grounding in rock tradition, but also wholly original because of the new twist that they give it. 

The band’s sound is primarily rockabilly and bluesy rock, but Imelda May has a certain pop sensibility about her that includes more modern colours and tones.  The band’s use of double bass and brass instruments, combined with her own playing of the bodhran, gives the band an incredibly original feel. 

So far Imedla May has released a good run of albums and successful singles.  Her albums include “No Turning Back”, “Love Tattoo” and “Mayhem”, which have seen her rise steadily in the public’s acclaim.  Her singles began with the rollicking tour-de-force that is “Johnny Got A Boom-Boom”, followed by the equally earthshaking offerings of “Big Bad Handsome Man”, “Psycho” and “Mayhem”.  2009 saw her claim the title of Best Female at the Meteor Awards, a tribute to her excellence and her striking originality.  It may also have something to do with her incredibly sense of style, which has seen her appear on the front of the Irish Sunday Times Style and at Milan Fashion Week.
