What started as a fictional band from a movie famously spawned a real-life counterpart featuring some of the actors from the film and now The Stars from The Commitments make their way back to the stage in the UK, to demonstrate that they still have what it takes to present an unforgettable show.
Having reformed for shows in 2010 they continue into the new decade ready to remind audiences of the delight that they experienced at the hands of the 1991 movie by director Alan Parker. So to re-visit a classic band live onstage, getting hold of jazz and blues tickets is the first step to musical bliss.
When the movie was released audiences witnessed the likes of Dick Massey and Kenneth McCluskey onscreen, portraying the roles of Bill Mooney and Derek Scully respectively, and they remained for the off-screen, real-life, counterpart. But it is not just these familiar faces that the band have at their disposal; they also have some hit songs from the movie to perform live. From “Try a Little Tenderness” and “Mustang Sally” to “Treat Her Right”, “In Her Midnight Hour” and “Dark End of the Street”, among others. For any fan of the film “The Commitments”, it will be a must-see treat.
The film, of course, featured Massey and McCluskey performing alongside a cast that included Robert Arkins, Colm Meaney, Maria Doyle, Andrew Strong and Andrea Corr, plus many others, in a plot following a group of down-on-their-luck Dubliners that decide to form a soul band. Hoping to emulate the sound of their heroes they strive to create what will be the greatest band in the world, far surpassing – in their opinions - the other bands that are coming out of Ireland. Directed by Alan Parker “The Commitments” would many different awards and leave a lasting legacy.
So with the live performance by The Stars from The Commitments audiences do not just witness a great band, they get to be part of a legacy that began back in 1991. Many other artists offer a glimpse at someone seen onscreen – Jared Leto from 30 Seconds To Mars and many other musicians have appeared in movies, after all – but The Commitments offer something truly unique and special. So no film fan will want to miss out, and no music fan will be able to keep away when The Stars from The Commitments are in town.
When they arrive onstage audiences will wish that they were armed with concert tickets so that they can head to the venue and witness the band first hand. Nothing beats hearing the music of an acclaimed band performed live and with The Stars from the Commitments it will provide this and the ability to re-live the time spent with the characters from the hit movie. So make sure you are first in line.
