Mary Wilson is of course best known for her work with the international supergroup, the historically popular “The Supremes”. For fans of this group, Mary Wilson provides a chance to have glimpse at what it would have been like to see them live. As one third of the group, she still is able to act as a faithful representative of what they would be.
Founded at the beginning of the 60’s, The Supremes would go on to popularise the styles of doo-wop and Motown. With their spectacular vocal styles, they rose to become one of the most popular groups in the world: they have the fifth most number one hits in history. Their mainstream success was built upon a series of chart topping hits which are now known the world over. These include such classics as “Baby Love”, “Come See About Me”, “Stop in the Name of Love”, “Back in My Arms Again”, “I Hear A Symphony”, “You Can’t Hurry Love”, “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”, and “Love is Here and Now You’re Gone”. With these singles The Supremes captured the heart of the world and ensured their lasting legendary success.
Mary Wilson is also known for her other achievements. She is an inspirational speaker at institutions around the world, encouraging young people to follow their dreams with her “Dare to Dream” lecture. She has written a book recently about her life entitled “Dreamgirl – My Life As A Supreme”. She also works a good deal with charities, and is currently curating an exhibition of gowns worn by The Supremes. But out of all these it is still her singing which continues to enchant and enthrall.
