The band’s name is derived from the name of a street in Baltimore that two of the members, Patrick Thompson and Shawn Mike lived on before the formation of Alesana. In 2005, a few months after forming, the band was signed to Tragic Hero Records, becoming the first band to be signed by the company. Shortly after being signed, the band recorded their first demo, and eventually their first EP, titled ‘Try This With Your Eyes Closed,’ followed by a tour that allowed the band to become more recognised.
No sooner than the band had finished touring, they were in the studio recording their second album ‘On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax’ which was released in 2006. The album features songs such as ‘Alchemy Sounded Good at the Time,’ ‘The Third Temptation of Paris,’ and ‘Daggers Speak Louder Than Words.’ The album was received well by fans and critics, gaining a 69 percent rating from Absolutepunk. The release of this album also saw the end of their work under Tragic Hero Records, and the band was signed to Fearless records, making a music video under them. The album ‘On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax’ was heavily inspired by Greek mythology, and several of the songs relate to various happenings throughout history. The band furthered their popularity by performing on the Vans Warped tour throughout the summer of 2007.
The band again began working in the studio on their third album ‘Where Myth Fades to Legend,’ which released in June of 2008. Again, the album contained various songs relating to tales and popular stories that the band associated with. The band embarked on a tour in 2009 through Australia, playing alongside notable bands such as Nine Inch Nails, New Found Glory and Chiodos.
