It can only be Chris de Burgh, the Argentinian-born Irish singer songwriter, who continues to inspire to this very day with a back catalogue of songs that have made him an international star. With many albums under his belt and live shows that have gone down in history (such as a 2007 gig in Iran – the first Western artist to perform their since the Iranian revolution), he is an unbeatable act.

Despite being a well known Irish musician, Chris de Burgh was in fact born in Argentina to a British father and Irish mother and whilst he travelled and settled in many places during his early years, he eventually lived in County Wexford in Ireland. It was during these days that he performed for the guests of Bargy Castle, his home, and sowed the seeds for his future career in show business.

Real name Christopher John Davison he took on the pseudonym Chris de Burgh early in his life, from his mother’s maiden name. He was in his mid twenties by the time he signed a recording contact in 1974, where he began to slowly build up a fan base by performing and supporting other acts. His early albums, such as “Far Beyond These Castle Walls” and “Spanish Train and Other Stories” made little impact in the UK or US, instead fairing much better on the European mainland and in South America, but by the end of the 1980s he was a international star.

His career continued steadily in the 1970s, eventually having an impact in the UK, with albums such as “The Getaway” and “Eastern Wind” allowing him to build up more of a fanbase. However, his popularity exploded upon the release of his 1986 album “Into the Light”, which featured his most famous song “The Lady in Red”. At the time, the song was widely thought to be about Princess Diana and the princess herself attended a private concert in the 1980s before thanking him for penning the song about her. In fact, “The Lady in Red” is said to be about his wife Diane. Whatever the true intent behind the song, it catapulted him to superstardom and elevated his career to a level that has carried him for many decades since.

From the 1980s onwards, Chris de Burgh has released albums such as “Flying Colours” (1988), “This Way Up” (1994), “Quiet Revolution” (1999), “Timing is Everything” (2002), “The Road to Freeom” (2004), “The Storyman” (2006), “Footsteps” (2009) and the 2010 release “Moonfleet”.

When Chris de Burgh hits the stage, there is nowhere anyone would rather be than inside the auditorium witnessing his powerful songs. Make sure you get your tickets right away!
