Ever since he was a child, Brown has enjoyed playing music. In his teens, Jackson would play gigs wherever he could find them, to whoever would be watching. In 1966, Jackson joined the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and was signed with Nina Music. Under this contract, he wrote various material for bands and artists such as the Eagles, the Byrds and Tom Rush. After spending time writing material for others, Browne began to write his own music, and was signed to Asylum Records in 1971.
He released his self titled album a few months later, and the single ‘Doctor My Eyes’ managed to land a spot in the US top ten charts. Various other tracks from this album made frequent airplay on the radio, allowing Browne to become a somewhat well recognised musician. His second album ‘For Everyman,’ although it was not as successful as the first, contained well known tracks such as ‘Take it Easy,’ a track also released and made hugely popular by the Eagles.
Jackson Browne’s music is not simply something to sing along to, a lot of his music has a deeper, political meaning. In 1979, Browne joined various other musicians in order to establish the organisation ‘Musicians United for Safe Energy.’ The organisation protested against the use of nuclear power plants across the United States, and at one point, Browne was arrested for these protests. Browne’s music began to mirror his political views; for example, his lyrics described various political events that occurred during the time, and this new music was a hit with his close fans, though not with mainstream audiences. Browne also performed at various charity concerts of organisations that he supported and believed in.
Although Jackson Browne’s music may have become somewhat controversial amongst his audiences, seeing this talented musician performing live is not something to be missed. Purchasing tickets in advance for any concert that Jackson plays is recommended, as it is likely that concerts will rapidly sell out.
