The John Butler Trio hail from Perth in Australia and consists of John Butler himself alongside Byron Luiters and Nicky Bomba. Together they have released four albums, with a fifth due for release in 2010, and have entertained large crowds on stages all around the world. They have also won numerous awards, including the “Best Independent Release” for their second album in 2001 from the ARIA Awards. They have also been nominated for further ARIA Awards and J Awards amongst others.
John Butler began playing music from an early age after being handed his grandfather’s dobro guitar by his grandmother and to this day it has become an item he cherishes, laying the foundations for his life’s work in music. He first started performing as a busker on the streets of Perth whilst attending University, before dropping out and focusing solely on music.
Over time he formed the John Butler Trio, which in its original incarnation featured Gavin Shoesmith and Jason McGann. They toured extensively and eventually released their debut album “John Butler” in 1998, which cemented Butler as a rising star – something that would be furthered by his next release three years later.
“Three”, released in 2001, became a huge hit, reaching platinum status in Australia and allowing them to perform regularly. They followed it up with “Living 2001-2002” in 2003, “Sunrise Over Sea” in 2004 and “Grand National” in 2007.
2010 sees the John Butler Trio return with “April Uprising”. It is a highly anticipated release for fans of the group, who have been following the progress on the album very closely. When it is released, expect it to be a huge success.
