After splitting up in 1990, Spandau Ballet return to the stage to remind audiences of their popular brand of funk, soul, jazz and synthpop, which made them a musical force to be reckoned with in the 1980s.
It was a decade that saw them release hugely successful singles and albums, with the likes of “Gold” reaching number one in an array of countries and securing their success for years to come. As a result of their unprecedented popularity back then, a return to form is likely to attract a huge number of fans to venues across the country, making Spandau Ballet tickets hot property when they go on sale.
During the 1980s their success was unrivalled, but a split in 1990 has meant that fans have had to wait many years to hear some of their favourite songs in a live setting. Spandau Ballet first formed in 1976, however it would be some time before they began to resemble the group we know and love. At this point they went by the name The Cut, but after recruiting additional members they eventually changed their name to The Makers. As they began to make a name for themselves they subsequently settled on Spandau Ballet and began to spread the word around the London music scene.
A record deal was inevitable and when they finally secured a position with a record company and began work on their debut album, success would be just around the corner. Singles such a “To Cut A Long Story Short” and “The Freeze” gave them positive buzz and with time they emerged with their first album “Journeys to Glory” (1981). They followed it up with the album “Diamond” (1982) as well as singles such as “Chant No.1”, but it would be 1983’s “True” that would catapult them to international stardom. This was the record that featured tracks such as “Gold” and “True”, which was played worldwide and cemented their name for years to come.
Throughout the decade they released “Parade” (1984), “Through the Barricades” (1986) and “Heart Like a Sky” (1989). Then, with a highly publicised reunion in 2009 they released “Once More” to brand new levels of success. It mainly featured re-recordings of their classic hits, with two new tracks to add to the mix. Spandau Ballet were back!
