Transatlantic return to the stage to showcase classic songs from their back catalogue of successful albums. Over the last decade this progressive rock supergroup has managed to build on the success of bands such as Spock’s Beard, Kaipa, Marillion and Dream Theater to create a group with a lasting legacy and an instant ability to impress.
Since the release of their debut album “SMPT:e” in 2000 they have built up a steady fan base and managed to make a positive name for themselves within the music press.
Transatlantic consists of Neal Morse, the former vocalist and keyboardist of Spock’s Beard; Mike Portnoy, the drummer of Dream Theater; Roine Stolt, the former guitarist and vocalist of Kaipa and Pete Trewavas, the bassist of Marillion. Together they have released three studio albums, two live albums and two further releases, with songs such as “In Held (Twas) in I”, “My New World” and “The Whirlwind”. These tracks have helped them to become one of the most popular progressive bands around, particularly in terms of critical acclaim, helping them to remain at the top of their game and attract brand new fans.
The group was founded by Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy, who employed Stolt and Trewavas to create a rock supergroup with the name Second Nature. They soon settled on the name Transatlantic and began to work on their first album, 2000’s “SMPT:e”, which was a critical success and saw them head on to tour the United States. The result was the live album “Live in America” (2001), which was followed up with the album “Bridge Across America” (2001) and a further live release in the form of “Live in Europe” (2003). Fans would then have to wait six years for another release from them, which took the form of 2009’s “The Whirlwind”, a release that once again sees them hit the road and show other progressive rock bands how it is done.
Transatlantic have demonstrated that the time spent by the individual members in their other bands has given them the experience they needed to pull off a monumental rock supergroup. Like any band their true home is on stage, as demonstrated by their popular live albums, and so catching them live is a must, so make sure you purchase Transatlantic tickets right away.
