Andrew Sheridan Out of Action for Six Nations

England Prop Missing Remaining Matches of the Tournament due to Injury

It has been revealed that Andrew Sheridan, the England prop famous for his height and physical strength, will miss out on the remaining matches as part of the Six Nations Tournament thanks to a torn calf – referred to as a ‘grade-two tear’ – suffered during the recent game against France.

Sheridan has played for England since the start of the last decade, having played rugby union from an early age, and also plays in the loosehead prop position for Sale Sharks, with past appearances for the likes of Bristol and Richmond as well. It is not the only injury that he has suffered that has caused upset in recent years, with a dislocated shoulder meaning that he missed the entire 2010 Six Nations tournament, leading to a replacement standing in his place. He obtained that injury whilst playing as part of the Heineken Cup.

The Six Nations have been going well for England so far, with the recent win against France pointing towards a possible win for the international team – a title they have not held since the early half of the last decade. They are yet to play Scotland and Ireland for the competition, though hopes have undoubtedly been raised following previous stints as part of the season.

Sheridan is the latest player to suffer an injury that has led to his missing out of the Six Nations tournament. Last week it was reported that the Wales and Cardiff Blues player Tom Shanklin would be missing out on the entire tournament due to knee surgery that is going to require a longer recovery time that first thought. It means that those picking up sports tickets to witness either England or Wales play as part of the current Six Nations championship will see replacement in their respective positions.

The Six Nations Rugby Union Championships began on Friday 4th February 2011 and continue to Saturday 19th March 2011 (the day that England take on Ireland in Dublin). As well as Wales, England and Ireland, the championship also features Scotland, France and Italy.
