Early Closure for Cool Hand Luke at the Aldwych Theatre
The Stage Adaptation Will Close in November Following its Opening at the Beginning of the Month
It was announced back in June that Marc Warren would be taking to the stage in a role made famous by Paul Newman in a 1967 movie as “Cool Hand Luke” appears at the Aldwych Theatre. That production eventually opened its doors at the beginning of this month and though it was due to continue there until January 2012 it has instead announced an earlier closing date of November 2011.
The story of “Cool Hand Luke” began life as a novel by Donn Pearce and was famously adapted into a movie in the 1960s with Paul Newman taking on the now-iconic role. Luke Jackson is a rebellious World War II veteran who has been incarcerated in a Florida prison as his outlandish nature has taken its toll on a society that he has now shunned. On the inside his attitude has had a similar effect on the prison staff and whilst his inmates see him as an idol the prison bosses want to break him – no matter how hard it is to do.
Marc Warren has appeared in a wide range of roles over the years but he is perhaps best known for his part in the television series “Hustle”, which is one of many television appearances as part of his career, which also includes “Band of Brothers” and “State of Play”. But that is not to say “Cool Hand Luke” is his first foray into a West End show as he has also appeared in “The Rise and Fall of Little Voice” when that production appeared at the Vaudeville Theatre.
As well as Warren the production also features Lisa Eichhorn as Mrs Jackson alongside Lee Boardman, Richard Brake, Michael Cuckson, Rob Falconer, Kenneth Jay, Bret Jones, Sandra Marvin, Tania Mathurin, Joshua McCord, Nathan Osgood, Julie Rogers, Tom Silburn and David Sturzaker.
There has been no announcement of a replacement production for “Cool Hand Luke” at the Aldwych Theatre, though audiences have until Saturday 19th November 2011 to pick up Theatre Tickets and see it before it closes.
