Neil Diamond Among Those Added to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Diamond, Cooper and Tom Waits The Latest Stars to Receive the Honour

The annual ceremony to crown the latest inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame took place recently, with three well known artists receiving the honour in 2011 – Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Dr John and Darlene Love. They join a host of legendary musicians who, over the years, have been immortalised by their inclusion in the prestigious museum, allowing their work – which has been highly influential - to survive the test of time.

The ceremony took place in New York and is set to be televised in the US by the end of the month.

Neil Diamond is the well known American musician whose name has been heard by people all over the world, whether or not they are familiar with his work. Between the 1960s and the 1980s he would find huge success with an array of songs, from “Solitary Man” and “Girl You’ll Be a Woman Soon” to “Red, Red Wine” and “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers”. Such hits have allowed his career to survive through the decades so that various different generations of music lovers have been able to pick up concert tickets and get in on the action.

Meanwhile, Alice Cooper is one of the best known names in the rock world, having enjoyed a career that began as a band in the 1960s and developed into a solo project from the 1970s. He has also appeared on stages all over the world and secured a wealth of number one hits on both sides of the Atlantic, with albums that include “Welcome to My Nightmare”, “Lace and Whiskey”, “Constrictor”, “Along Came a Spider” and “Welcome 2 My Nightmare”, among others. His live stage shows have been particularly notorious thanks to the imaginative props that he utilises in concert.

Tom Waits, on the other hand, has enjoyed more success abroad than at home in the US, with his distinctive vocals and bluesy songs capturing the attention of music lovers in the UK.

Neil Diamon is set to embark on a tour of the UK in June, beginning at the LG Arena in Birmingham on Tuesday 28th July 2011 and continuing until his appearance at the O2 Arena in London on Monday 11th July 2011.
