New Cast Members Join War Horse at the New London Theatre
A Long List of Names Announced in Connection with the Acclaimed Play in the West End
With the movie version of “War Horse” getting closer to its January release date it is likely that we are going to be hearing a lot about Michael Morpurgo’s famous story in the months ahead. However, today’s big announcement concerns the play, which has been wowing audiences at the New London theatre since early 2009, and in particular its cast, which has been given a major overhaul.
A long list of cast members will be associated with the show from Wednesday 16th November 2011. They are Alex Avery, Joshua Blake, Pascale Burgess, Richard Cant, Sam Clark, Kate Colebrook, Emily Cooper, Matt Costain, Ewen Cummins, Danny Dalton, Matthew Forbes, Bob Fox, Thomas Goodridge, Owain Gwynn, Jack Holden, Robert Horwell, Christian Jenner, Luke Jerdy, Curtis Jordan, Louise Kempton, Dominic Leeder, Henry Maynard, Shaun McKee, Steve Nicolson, Christopher Patrick Nolan, Jack Parker, Malcolm Ridley, Mat Ruttle, William Rycroft, Rachel Sanders, Eliot Short, Meghan Treadway, John Trindle, Adam Welsh and Tom Wilton.
“War Horse” tells the story of Albert and his beloved horse Joey during the First World War. The action begins in Devon where Albert learns that Joey must be sold off to the cavalry to help in the war effort overseas and he is naturally heartbroken. So Joey heads out to Europe and embarks on a harrowing adventure that sees him fight on both sides of the battle and ultimately find himself stranded in no-man’s land. Meanwhile, Albert misses Joey terribly and decides to head to the continent to bring him back, but as he is too young to enlist and fight it will be a treacherous mission.
The production first appeared on the stage of the Olivier National Theatre in 2007 and remained there for two runs between then and late 2008. It would then transfer to the New London Theatre, where West End audiences have had a look in. All along the way it has received critical acclaim and has attracted a great deal of attention, leading to a Broadway version opening and a Steven Spielberg-directed movie emerging in the UK in January 2012.
“War Horse” continues its run at the New London Theatre and is currently booking to Saturday 18th February 2012.
