Russ Abbot to star in Oliver!
Theatre fans with Oliver! tickets are to be treated to performances from Russ Abbot later this year. The veteran comic will play Fagin from June 14th at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, where he will star alongside Steven Hartley and Kerry Ellis.
Abbot is no stranger to the role, as he had the part when the show first opened at the London Palladium 13 years ago.
The comic also slipped back into the role when ex-Not The Nine O'Clock News and Blackadder star Rowan Atkinson was briefly forced to pull out for medical reasons last year.
Abbot has appeared in many West End productions over the years, including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and My Fair Lady.
However, he will be just as familiar to theatre ticket holders because of his extensive TV work.
He starred in The Russ Abbot show in the 1980s, while he has also been seen in programmes as diverse as Last of the Summer Wine, Casualty and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
