Tamzin Outhwaite hails Sweet Charity role
People with theatre tickets for a new production of Sweet Charity will get to see the starring actress truly lapping up her part.Tamzin Outhwaite plays Charity Hope Valentine in the musical, which started its latest run at the Haymarket Theatre in London earlier this month.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the actress described the part as a "dream role" and the fulfillment of a long-held ambition.
"It sounds cheesy, but musical theatre makes me feel I've come home," Outhwaite said.
"There's something so exhilarating about a live show."
However, Outhwaite admitted that she cannot tolerate or understand the "elitist attitudes" that some people have towards singing and dancing.
Indeed, she said the performers in Sweet Charity are the "least celebrated yet the most talented" group of people she has ever worked with.
Outhwaite made her name starring opposite Martin Kemp in EastEnders, before moving on to programmes such as Red Cap and Hotel Babylon.
Sweet Charity will continue running at the Haymarket Theatre until Saturday January 8th 2011.
