Welcome to Thebes praised by critics
Theatregoers with Welcome to Thebes tickets are in for a treat if reviews in the newspapers are to be believed.According to Paul Taylor of the Independent, this is a very ambitious and fascinating play that has been expertly directed by Richard Eyre.
Nikki Amuka-Bird's performance as Eurydice was singled out for praise by the critic, who said she played the part "beautifully".
Mr Taylor also spoke highly of David Harewood's turn at Theseus, who performed the role in a "swaggeringly presidential" way.
He added that the play offers theatregoers the chance to enjoy an "engaging streak of iconoclastic humour".
Charles Spencer of the Telegraph also had good things to say about Welcome to Thebes, including its powerful direction and terrific design.
He said the stage really does evoke both an ancient Greek palace and a war-torn city in Africa.
However, he suggested that people with tickets for Welcome to Thebes "do a lot of homework to get full value" from the play.
