The European Grand Prix has taken place in many locations over the years, sometimes as a separate event and sometimes as a title for a particular country’s Grand Prix. It means that the first event, held in Italy in 1923, was also that year’s Italian Grand Prix, and this continued throughout the years in France and Belgium. After the war, this honorific form of the European Grand Prix was held in various countries until 1977 in the UK, disappearing from the calendar until 1983 when it was held at Brands Hatch and then Nürburgring. However, it would once again be shortlived until it was revived at Donington in the 1990s and found a permanent place on the schedule in 1999.

In the last decade it was held repeatedly Nürburgring until the first race in Valencia in 2008, a place where it will remain for some time to come.
